Highlighting a foreign probe into the Channel 4 allegations on the Easter Sunday bomb attacks, former President Maithripala Sirisena called for technical assistance from the UN for a local probe into the incidents.
MP Sirisena, who revealed this in Parliament said he favours a local probe into the Easter Sunday bomb attacks with technical assistance from the UN.
"I met the UN Assistant Resident Representative yesterday and made a written request for technical assistance from the latter's organization. A foreign probe will lead towards unwanted circumstances. It might even affect Sri Lanka's sovereignty," he said.
Also Mr. Sirisena reiterated that the officials in the security establishments never informed him on the impending attacks. However he did mention that there had been prior knowledge on the activities of Zaran who led the April 21st attacks since 2017.
"I questioned the security officials as to why Zaran and the teams were not arrested," he said.
Arousing suspense, the MP talked of a secret file which had been handed over to former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa by the Presidential Commission members.
"The commission members have told Mr. Rajapaksa not to show this file to anyone," he also said.
Referring to the remarks by Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka about him on Thursday, the former President questioned why the latter was holding on to the Field Marshal post which was given by him.
"Fonseka is holding on to the Field Marshal’s post which I gave him. I gave it as a gesture of gratitude. One wonders why Fonseka won't throw his Field Marshal uniform away,” he said. (Yohan Perera)
