An person who stood accused of the rape of a 69-year-old elderly woman was found guilty under two counts and sentenced to seven and 15 years of rigorous imprisonment under each count by Galle High Court Judge Kavindya Nanayakkara.
She ordered the imprisonment be served under the two counts concurrently in 15 years.
In addition to the jail term, the accused was fined Rs. 20,000 and ordered to pay Rs. 500,000 as compensation to the victim.
He was sentenced to a further six-month imprisonment in default of the fine and one-year imprisonment in default of the compensation payment.
The accused, Heenatigala Pedige Roshan Madusaka, alias Hichchi Kolla is a resident of Thelikada in Galle.
He had on January 18, 2013 forcibly entered the house of the victim at night when she was listening to a surmon on the radio and had raped her.
Delivering the sentence, the judge held that the prosecution has established the charges beyond any reasonable doubts to secure a conviction against him.
