The military has come forward to provide blood and meet a serious shortage of blood at the national blood bank.
Director at the National Blood Transfusion Service, Sri Lanka, Dr. Lakshman Edirisinghe told the Daily Mirror that some troops have already provided blood.
He said that an urgent meeting will be held with the military tomorrow (Monday) on how to arrange the collection of blood from troops.
A serious shortage of blood had been reported at the national blood bank as blood donation camps had been suspended.
Edirisinghe said there was a serious shortfall to meet the daily requirement of blood at the blood bank.
Steps had been taken to collect blood in 15 Government hospitals around the country.
However, with the extension of the curfew very few people have come forward to give blood.
As a result the military has now offered to give blood to meet the urgent need.(Indika Sri Aravinda)
