A minor flood situation was witnessed in Gampaha and Kalutara District as the water levels of Kalu Ganga and Attanagalu Oya swell, the Department of Irrigation said today.
People in the low-lying areas of Munuwangoda, Ja-Ela, Milleniya, Kalutara, Horana, Ingiriya and Matugama were cautioned to be vigilant of this situation.
The Department of Meteorology yesterday warned of heavy showers exceeding 150 mm in some parts of the country and generally wet weather would prevail in the country in the coming days.
The department forecast 150mm of rain in the Western, Sabaragamuwa provinces and Galle, Matara and Nuwara Eliya districts in the days ahead.
Gutsy winds forecast in the seas off the island, South Indian seas, Arabian sea and the Bay of Bengal. Winds expected to go up to 70 km/h in the sea areas.
Meanwhile, the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) issued landslide warnings in Colombo, Galle, Kalutara, Matara, Nuwara Eliya and Ratnapura Districts.
Some areas have received heavy rainfalls yesterday with the highest rainfall of 215 mm recorded from Ingiriya, while Horana had a rainfall of 170.5 mm, Parindanuwara 124 mm and Padukka 111 mm. (Yohan Perera)
