In view to distilling, marketing, distributing and selling fake or bootleg liquor, other than the genuinely distilled and marketed alcoholic beverages, the Excise Department has introduced a new mobile application to identify the original status of the alcoholic liquor being sold in the wine stores and by other nominated sellers, Finance Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said.
Accordingly, the application was introduced with a QR code to scan the product instantaneously to ascertain whether the liquor is genuine or fake.
The ministry is to print the QR code on the liquor bottle label, which anyone, who is using a smartphone can scan.
If the QR code is rejected project a negative result, complaints can be uploaded using the same app and at the same time.
The excise department commissioner general requested the consumers to download and install the 'EXCISE TAX STAMP VALIDATOR' application on their smart phones via the google playstore or apple store. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
