Colombo, October 23 (Daily Mirror) - Following a mobile coconut sales programme, the Coconut Development Authority (CDA) will provide coconuts at a retail price between Rs. 100 and Rs. 120 from today.
In a media release, the CDA said that the mobile coconut sales programme was launched to offer consumers affordable prices.
The first phase of the programme was launched in Colombo, Sri Jayawardanapura Kotte and the Kaduwela Municipal Council areas.
Mobile coconut sales vehicles have been deployed near the Welikada Police Station in Colombo, the Kirulapone market, the Finance Ministry premises, and the Welikada Police Station in the Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte Municipal Council area. Additional locations include the Ananda Samarakoon Open Air Theater in Nugegoda, the Sethsiripaya premises covering Kaduwela and Battaramulla, and near the Coconut Cultivation Board on Denzil Kobbekaduwa Mawatha.
Under this programme, the Coconut Cultivation Board will supply 10,000 coconuts to the market on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Following the programme, 5,000 coconuts will be released daily, with a total of 15,000 coconuts planned to meet local demand.
Additionally, the Kurunegala Plantations Company will provide 1,500 coconuts daily from October 22, and the Chilaw Plantations Company will supply 3,000 coconuts daily.
