Mobile phones, laptops worth Rs. 50 Mn seized at BIA

Colombo, December 20 (Daily Mirror) - Customs officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake arrested three individuals attempting to smuggle electronic devices worth Rs. 50 million into Sri Lanka.

The two suspects, aged 38 and 25, were intercepted after arriving from Dubai on Flydubai flight FZ-569 this afternoon. 

The confiscated items included 309 mobile phones, 12 laptops, 02 MacBooks, 08 iPads, 20 smart watches, 05 routers and other accessories. 

Authorities believe the suspects intended to sell the goods in Sri Lanka’s gray market. 

Further investigations are underway.
