Referring to action taken by the police to remove certain parts from the vehicles under the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ programme, SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa yesterday said modifying a vehicle is not a crime.

Mr. Rajapaksa told Parliament that acts such as prevention of modifying vehicles will kill the automobile industry. “This industry should be safeguarded as livelihood depends on it,” he said.

“It is ironic to see a ruling party member raising a question on the Clean Sri Lanka programme in the House on Wednesday. We thought the Clean Sri Lanka programme was discussed at the ruling party’s parliamentary group. However, they were made aware of the questions raised in Parliament,” he said.

“It is also ironic to see the NPP which considered the media as divine when in opposition attacking them after coming into power. You people used the media to attack me while being in the opposition,” Mr. Rajapaksa added.

The MP said the government should focus on resolving the issues faced by the people rather than spending time on other matters.
