A group of experts from NASA, led by Sunithi Karunathilake, a senior scientist of Sri Lankan origin, is currently in Sri Lanka to investigate potential similarities between certain rock formations discovered in Sri Lanka and those found on Mars.

Beginning their investigative journey, the NASA scientists have planned an observational expedition in the regions of Ginigalpalassa and Indikolapalassa, followed by a trip to the Ussangoda area in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. These locations have been selected for their distinctive geological features that have sparked the curiosity of the research team.

By merging the fields of geology and astrobiology, this research endeavor has the capacity to unveil fascinating resemblances between Earthly rocks and those present on the distant Red Planet. Such discoveries will undoubtedly contribute to expanding our knowledge of the universe.
