The No Confidence Motion moved by the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) against Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila was an unwise decision made by the SJB without realizing political changes, National Peoples’ Power MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today.

He told Parliament that this no confidence motion was a political decision and called it a media show.

He said this had only united the groups within the Government, which had started to criticize the Government for several of its decisions.

“We noticed that several Government groups such as Dayasiri Jayasekara and Vasudeva Nanayakkara were vociferous of the Government. But, this no confidence motion had united them to protect the Government and the Energy Minister,” he said.

MP Dissanayake said however, they would support the no confidence motion on the grounds that Minister Gammanpila failed to pass down the benefit of the fuel price reduction in the World Market by utilizing the Fuel Price Stabilization Fund and his failure to find alternatives to prevent fuel price increase.

“The Minister has been unable to provide facts to the Cost of Living Committee which met to discuss the fuel price increase and find alternatives,” he said. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
