Claiming that the egg attack on JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake was a criminal offence committed by an organised gang, the Lawyers for National People’s Power today alleged that the police had not recorded even a statement from the two suspects arrested in connection with the incident.

Attorney-at-Law Sunil Watagala told a news conference that there was a person or a group of persons who aided and abetted the attack and that investigations should be conducted to ascertain the chain of evidence and reveal the real culprits behind the incident.

“Police can trace the chain of evidence and ascertain the real culprit behind the incident. They can check the video footages, newspaper articles and trace telephone conversations of the two suspects. Police don’t seem to follow that procedure,” he said.

Mr. Watagala said according to photos of the suspects, it was revealed that they were attached to a private security firm and added that the government should conduct an impartial investigation into the incident.

Attorney-at-Law Upul Kumarapperuma said this incident could be just the beginning and that they could even hurl bombs in the future.

He urged the police to arrest the suspects and implement the law against them.(Ajith Siriwardana)
