Posting a message on his X, formerly known as Twitter, Rajapaksa said, “Congratulations to @anuradisanayake (sic) & the #NPP on this significant journey! Wishing you success as you accept the people’s mandate and work toward the change they have sought. This marks a new path and a fresh approach chosen by the people. While embracing healthy competition, the #SLPP remains committed to the values our supporters stand for—those who voted for us and those who believe in our vision. We will continue to stand with you and uphold these values.”
If Rajapaksa himself will return to Parliament is still unclear, as it was yet to be announced by the Election Commission whether the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna will receive a National List slot.
Rajapaksa opted not to contest the election, but put his name on the party’s national list.
