In response to the CID complaint filed by a civil society representative alleging that MP Namal Rajapaksa had received preferential treatment during a law examination 11 years ago, Rajapaksa said that there was no special treatment given to any candidate, including him.

The complaint was submitted by Jamuni Kamantha Thushara, Chairman of the Citizen's Movement Against Fraud, Corruption and Waste.

Addressing the media after filing the complaint, Kamantha Thushara claimed there is evidence suggesting that Rajapaksa fraudulently obtained his law degree.

"Such allegations which have been used only for political gains over the years just like many other allegations against me, are utterly baseless and severely undermines the credibility of the Sri Lanka Law College that has always maintained a strong reputation for fairness. I catergorically state there was no special treatment given to any candidate, including myself, " MP Rajapaksa said.

He said these claims are only attempts to tarnish his reputation and undermine the credibility of the Sri Lanka Law College. "It is disappointing that such tactics are being used to distract the public away from the inefficiencies of the present government and the false educational qualifications given by several NPP MPs which eventually even led to the Speaker of Parliament tendering his resignation. When the third highest ranking official of the land resigns, it puts the government in shaky waters," the MP said.

He said the ongoing controversy surrounding the appointment of the Speaker with alleged fake qualifications is a much more serious matter that deserves attention.

"I am confident that the outcome of the inquiry on my so called preferential treatment during my law exams will clear any misunderstandings, and I assure my full cooperation in the process. It is my firm belief that the truth will prevail, and the reputation of both myself and Sri Lanka Law College will be upheld," Rajapaksa stated.
