The controversial Rs. 2.6 million electricity bill of MP Namal Rajapaksa was paid in haste as the Fundamental Rights (FR) petition filed against the default of the bill is scheduled to be taken up before the Supreme Court on the 6th of next month, former JVP Provincial Councillor Nalin Hewage said.
He told reporters that a lawyer from Polonnaruwa has filed a FR petition before the Supreme Court over the default of the particular electricity bill and it is to be taken up for hearing next month.
Hewage said the present CEB Chairman, the then CEB Chairman, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara, the then Minister Ravi Karunanayake, Namal Rajapaksa and Mahinda Rajapaksa have been named as respondents in the petition.
He said they including him had been notified to appear for the case and said the bill was settled by MP Sanath Nishantha in fear of the pending case.
Hewage said he had revealed details about the unpaid bill for the wedding of Namal Rajapaksa during a TV show where Namal Rajapaksa and Sanath Nishantha were present.
He said the wedding was held in 2019 and the bill was paid in 2023 and added that it is a huge fraud.(Ajith Siriwardana)
