The new Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will not form a UNP government but an interim government which comprises all parties in Parliament, to save the nation, UNP Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardene said yesterday.
“We hope all parties would join the government and resolve the economic crisis faced by the people. Sri Lanka’s economy is in a grave situation with foreign reserves having gone down to the lowest in history, while people are suffering without essential goods. It is essential to resolve this crisis and ease the burden of the people,” Mr. Wijewardene told Dailymirror.
“Allegations that the UNP leader has got into a deal with Rajapaksas is not true,” he added.
“Some foreign countries and donor agencies have expressed their happiness on Mr. Wickremesinghe’s appointment. We are hopeful that they will assist Sri Lanka as political stability is established,” he also said.(Yohan Perera)
