Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) which is a key proponent of the struggle (Aragalaya) said today the next government should be formed only to realise what the July 9 public uprising campaigned for and the adoption of a new constitution along with electoral reforms with approval of people by referendum had to be prioritised.
Making his remarks to Daily Mirror, FSP General Secretary Kumar Gunaratnam told Daily Mirror that both President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) had lost legitimacy and none of their members had a moral right to be part of the next government. Asserting that his party would not describe the complexion and composition of the upcoming government, he said it should implement nothing but the objectives of the ‘struggle’.
Mr. Gunaratnam said democratic reforms and economic relief to the people are key among them. He reiterated his call for the change of the political system that remained in the country for the last 74 years.
“The public revolt has achieved what is impossible constitutionally and legally. A constitutional should be adopted with approval of people by referendum,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kumar Gunaratnam and Party officials held a press conference yesterday to reveal their party stance. (Kelum Bandara)
