The National Transport Commission (NTC) will take legal action against errant bus drivers and conductors if they continue to play jarring music and broadcast videos from today.

NTC Director-General Nilan Miranda told Daily Mirror CDs containing traditional had been distributed to NTC provincial divisions and bus deports from where bus operators, drivers or conductors could obtain their copies of the CDs which could be relayed in buses

The programme was implemented on January 1 but a 15-day grace period was allowed to obtain the CDs.

“Many music videos played in buses are inappropriate for children. New regulations will apply to both private and SLTB buses. The NTC has the right to take legal action against bus drivers and conductors based on public complaints. Passengers are requested to call hot-line No:1955 to lodge complaints on ear-splitting music or if buses travel unusually slow to pick up more passengers,” he said adding that these decisions were taken after a survey conducted from,500 people from diverse cultures. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
