Medical Technical Services Director Dr. Anver Hamdani said that the Oddamavadi burial grounds in Batticaloa have room only to bury about 2,000 COVID-19 victims.
While addressing the media in Kandy, he said no one could predict as to when the COVID pandemic would be wiped out from this country. There are no concrete conclusions, he said.
"The travel restriction was imposed on August 20 and more than 3,500 COVID positive cases were being reported daily, and by August 24 it had reached the 4,000 mark," he said.
"During the first week of the travel restriction, the COVID positive count reached 3,000. The second week, we saw a decline in the number of positive cases, deaths and oxygen dependencies, " he said.
Dr. Hamdani said all these were possible due to the curtailing of human mobility.
Therefore, we have to live with this COVID virus, he added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
