Supreme Court today resumed oral submissions in the first contempt of court case filed against former State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake for allegedly making insulting remarks on the reputation of the judiciary.

Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Sarath Jayamanna appearing for the Attorney General submitted to court that respondent Ramanayake had deliberately made a contemptuous statement to media on August 21, 2017 outside the Temple Trees.

Supreme Court three-judge-bench comprising Justice Sisira de Abrew, Justice Vijith Malalgoda and Justice Preethi Padman Surasena fixed the case for further oral submissions on July 16.

ASG Jayamanna is to continue his oral submissions on next date as well.

The Supreme Court has already concluded recording evidence of both prosecution and defence witnesses.
