Some 150,000 consumers have been affected by power breakdowns due to the adverse weather condition prevailing in the country, Power and Energy Development Director and Media Spokesperson Sulakshana Jayawardena said.

He told the Daily Mirror that nearly 22,000 complaints have been received today and yesterday.

"About four customers in a separate connection line were affected due to power disruption and altogether 150,000 consumers reported to have been affected since yesterday and today," he said.

Most of the power lines switched off in the flooded areas enabling to provide relief, Mr Jayawardena said.

Accordingly, areas such as Kandy, Matale, Dambulla, Galagedara, Nuwara-Eliya, Kurunegala, Kuliyapitiya, Kelaniya, Kiribathgoda, Balangoda, Ratnapura, Galle, Matara, Neluwa and Deniyaya have been affected by the power outage, he said.

However, the CEB maintenance services are already deployed to restore the power supply with the least possible delay, Mr Jayawardena added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
