Despite the high turnout, a total of 3,820,738 registered voters did not cast their votes at the Presidential election held on September 21.
Out of the 17,140,354 registered voters, only 79.46% participated, with a total of 13,619,916 votes polled.
The Election Commission announced that 97.8% of these were valid votes, amounting to 13,319,616.
However, 300,300 votes were rejected, representing 2.2% of the total.
Anura Kumara Dissanayake of the NPP led the race, followed by Sajith Premadasa of the SJB.
