Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has expressed displeasure over the delays in finalising the constitution of the proposed National Democratic Front (NDF) and has asked United National Front (UNF) leaders to finalise it as soon as possible, informed sources said.

Sources close to the Prime Minister told the Daily Mirror he informed the UNF leaders to finalise the constitution of the proposed alliance so that the signing of the agreement and naming of the presidential candidate could be made.

He had also questioned as to why the constitution was not finalised despite the agreement reached between Minister Rajitha Senaratne and UNP Chairman Kabir Hashim on the NDF’s constitution.

UNF Leaders met at Minister Senaratne’s residence last Saturday to discuss the constitution.

The Prime Minister had asked as to how a presidential candidate could be named without finalising the constitution of the NDF.

Mr. Wickremesinghe is of the opinion that the presidential candidate could be named once the constitution of NDF is finalised. (Yohan Perera)
