Galwewa Siridhamma Thera, an Inter-University Student Federation leader detained with the IUSF Convener Wasantha Mudalige for more than two months under the PTA was admitted to Colombo National Hospital yesterday following a serious illness.

Siridhamma Thera who had been last detained at the Terrorist Investigation Division office in Narahenpita had been rushed to CNH yesterday afternoon by the TID officials as he was suffering from high fever for a few days.

Another Buddhist monk, who is also an IUSF activist, said that Siridhamma Thera had been sick for the past four days according to his sister who had gone to visit him two days ago.

After learning that the Thera was sick, his family members with legal assistance had tried to get him under medical supervision, but the TID has not taken him to a doctor until yesterday.

Unconfirmed reports said that the Thera’s platelet count has drastically dropped and with high fever he was probably suffering from dengue.

The IUSF activists questioned it is highly suspicious why the authorities continued to detain Siridhamma Thera even when he was seriously ill without getting him medical attention.

Attempts made to learn about the Thera’s condition from the CNH and Police authorities were futile. (Kurulu Koojana Kariyakarawana)
