The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has informed in writing to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) today, not to impose any power cuts until February 16, PUCSL Chairman Janaka Rathnayake said.
He said the decision was made to facilitate students sitting for AL examinations.
"When the matter came up yesterday (2) at the President’s Counsel the CEB and CPC wanted time to obtain instructions from their clients. As Court was keen to take up the matter due to its National importance, President’s Counsel for the CEB provided an undertaking to provide uninterrupted power until the matter is supported," the Chairman said.
The matter was supported today (3) and is to be resumed on Tuesday (7).
However, President’s Counsel for the CEB withdrew and/or refused to extend the undertaking to provide uninterrupted power, he said. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
