The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has sent a general appeal to all power consumers namely the public and private institutions to help minimise the electricity usage during the advanced level examination is in progress and requested the power suppliers not to interrupt supply.

PUCSL Chairman Janaka Rathnayaka said the Examinations Commissioner General had informed PUCSL to accede to its request and to take action not to interrupt power supply during the examination and at night as the candidates would find it difficult.

In response, the PUCSL conveyed the request to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) not to interrupt power supply and help the candidates who sit for the advanced level examination.

However, the CEB had informed the PUCSL that they were unable to accede to the request made by the PUCSL and therefore, Therefore said it is the responsibility of the government and the CEB to ensure continuity of power supply.

Therefore, the PUCSL requested the consumers - both public and private institutions to help reduce the electricity supply during the examination for the benefit of the children.

The Commission is optimistic that all parties will assist in managing the electricity demand and assist the power suppliers at this hour of need.

It has also been recommended to minimise the usage of air conditioners especially during peak hours where the examination is in progress. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
