The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) called for a public consultation this week, to review the Long-Term Generation Expansion Plan for the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), covering the 2025-2044 period.
Discussions of the consultation will focus on the CEB’s plan, which analyses the electricity generation systems, projected demand growth and the suitable technologies required to meet that demand during the period.
Additionally, discussions will also address the environmental challenges, impacts of climate change, operational characteristics of the future system, risk evaluations and sensitivities to major changes such as fuel prices.
In a notice to the public, the commission invited inputs from both interested individuals and stakeholders.
Submissions should be in the form of written comments and suggestions, which can be sent by mail or via online platforms until November 17.
The public is to access the CEB’s plan and relevant consultation documents through the PUCSL website.
An oral session for the public consultation will be announced in due course.
The commission stated that the stakeholder consultation will be conducted under the authority granted to it by Section 17 of Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka Act No. 35 of 2002.
