Parliament has been adjourned till May 17, after a tense situation erupted outside with protestors being tear-gassed and water cannons being used by the police.

Presiding MP Hesha Vithanage had to suspend sittings for 10 minutes following a heated argument with opposition MPs who got onto the Well of the House hearing of the protestors being attacked and demanding that the No Confidence Motions against the President and government be taken up immediately.

The Speaker later adjourned Parliament till May 17. (Ajith Siriwardena)
