The responsibility for the breakdown of patient care services at the Narahenpita Army Hospital should be borne by the relevant military officers and the Health Ministry officials who were involved in removing the doctors, the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) said.

They said the Health Ministry has implemented the transfer orders of three doctors attached to the Army Hospital to carry out patient care services with immediate effect without filling vacancies from successive appointments.

The number of Army doctors attached to the Narahenpita Army Hospital is not sufficient to maintain patient care without any issues, the GMOA said.

Therefore, the Health Ministry has completed the deployment of 38 Civilian Physicians to the Army Hospital, which is essential for maintaining patient care at the Army Hospital without any interruption, they said.

Due to the removal of doctors without filling the vacancies has caused several issues, the GMOA added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
