Colombo, October 2 (Daily Mirror) - The recent Presidential election revealed that people are no longer willing to vote based on religion, race or clan, Buddhist Affairs Co-ordinator Chairman Ven. Dr. Sasthrapathi Galagama Dammaransi Nayaka Thera said.

Addressing the media today, he said the people made a choice in voting against racism, religious divisions, continuous bribery and corruption in the country.

"Currently, the country’s economic and social issues are worsening. Therefore, the association has decided to work towards promoting religious harmony as part of an inter-religious unity effort," the thera said.

"A group of people who neither believe in any religion nor visit temples, churches or mosques were the ones who stood for national and religious harmony in the country. Due to their misguided opinions, true religious devotees are being harmed," he said.
