Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and MP Nalin Bandara who arrived at the Port Police to inquire about the teachers who were arrested for staging a protest in front of the Presidential Secretariat yesterday, were prevented by Police today from entering the premises.
Sajith Premadasa, accompanied by MP Nalin Bandara and a group of lawyers stood outside the police for more than 20 minutes and requested the police to inquire from senior officials to grant approval to meet the arrested to inquire about the well being of those teachers.
The Opposition Leader told the media that if the Leader of the Opposition, a Member of Parliament and lawyers were not allowed to enter the police station, what kind of democracy is there in the country.
He further said that his parliamentary privileges were violated by the police for not allowing him to inquire about the arrested teachers.
