Policy decision taken to decarbonise by year 2050

The government has taken a policy decision to achieve the goal of decarbonaization by the year 2050 while taking action to minimize gas emissions in the industries where electricity and transport sectors as well as thermal power utilization.

The cabinet spokesman said that in order to realize this goal, the requirement of gradually converting from fossil fuel to green energy production and consumption by changing the energy supply network has been recognized.

Under such circumstances, Greenstat Hydrogen India (Pvt.) Ltd., which is an affiliated body of Greenstat AS of Norway, has agreed to conduct a feasibility study on a pilot project for generating green hydrogen utilising a floating solar and wind combination. 

Accordingly, the proposal was submitted by the Energy Minister to enter into an agreement between Sri Lanka Petroleum Development Authority and Greenstat Hydrogen India (Pvt.) Ltd. in order to conduct the said feasibility study.
