Colombo, November 26 (Daily Mirror) - Due to heavy rainfall received last night, there is a possibility of flooding in low-lying areas around the Mahaweli River and Heda Oya basins, the Irrigation Department said.
The low-lying areas at risk around the Mahaweli River include Dimbulagala, Echchilampattai, Hingurakgoda, Kantalai, Kinniya, Koralai Pattu North, Lankapura, Medirigiriya, Muttur, Seruvila, Thamankaduwa, Thampalakamam, and Welikanda D/S Divisions.
Meanwhile, low-lying areas around Heda Oya in the Siyambalanduwa and Lahugala D/S Divisions are also under potential flood threat.
The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) has urged residents and travellers in these areas to take necessary precautions. DMC authorities have also been requested to implement appropriate safety measures.
