The post-election period will last for one week starting from the date that the general election results are declared, the police said.
Police Media Spokesman, DIG Nihal Thalduwa, said that law enforcement across the country has been placed on high alert during this period.
"The post-election period is now starting. Public gatherings, such as meetings or demonstrations, are prohibited for a week. The police have been fully mobilised during this time and will ensure security by conducting mobile patrols across the island. Intelligence officers are also actively on duty, with special security measures in place in identified police zones," he said.
He further revealed that 581 individuals were arrested for violating election laws during the pre-election period.
"No violence has been reported from any area. Among the 581 arrested, 18 were candidates, while the rest were their supporters," he added.
