President wants Sri Lankan productions on Netflix

Colombo, September 09 (Daily Mirror) -  President Ranil Wickremesinghe urged the country's youth to produce entertainment content that could feature on international streaming services such as Netflix. 

Speaking at an "Open Mic Night" event at Diyatha Uyana in Battaramulla on Sunday, the President reiterated his promises for a economically stable Sri Lanka that will be bring youth happiness. 

Responding to a youth who said he wanted Netflix in Sri Lanka, the President asked why Sri Lanka content could not feature on the streaming site. 

"I'll bring Netflix. Why can't somone in Sri Lanka make something like Squid Games or House of Cards on Netflix? Or there's another one - Designated Survivor," Wickremesinghe said. "Who was left in the end?" he jokingly asked.

"I'm thinking of one for the Opposition also - Chariots of Fire."

Wickremesinghe famously said that he spent his time watching Netflix after relinquishing the Premiership after the last general elections.
