President Maithripala Sirisena said he has not yet decided whether to contest or not at the next presidential election although there are many requests for him to contest.
He expressed his views addressing the representatives of the Organisation for the Protection of Sri Lanka Freedom Party at a meeting organised by the former Minister Mahinda Amaraweera during the weekend.
A large number of former provincial council members and electoral organisers who have not been called for any discussion in the last ten months have attended this meeting.
Among the participants were electoral organisers U. D. G. Ariyathilaka, Sanjaya Siriwardena, Nalin Gunwardena, Amarasiri Kuruwage, Bandara Athukorala, Vajira Kodithuwakku and Anuradha Sampath.
At this discussion, former provincial council members stressed that SLFP should not join any alliance and a candidate of the party should contest in the event of President Maithripala Sirisena not contesting. (Dayaseeli Liyanage)
