A nine-year-old boy reportedly died after undergoing surgery at the Sri Jayawardenepura Hospital raising concerns over potential medical negligence.
Dhanuja Vikramarachchi, a Grade 4 student from Haltota, was admitted to the hospital on December 17th for surgery related to a urinary tract condition.
The surgery was conducted on December 18th, but the boy failed to regain consciousness afterwards, the parents claim. Despite being transferred to the Intensive Care Unit at Ridgeway Children's Hospital, Dhanuja's condition deteriorated, and he died on December 22nd.
The boy's parents have filed a complaint with the police, alleging potential medical negligence. The investigations are underway.
Several attempts to contact the director of Sri Jayawardanapura General Hospital failed.
