Random rapid antigen tests which will be conducted on the borders of Western Province from today, will apply on passengers leaving through the southern expressway as well, Army Commander Lt. General Shavendra Silva told Daily Mirror.
He said all the borders of the Western province will have health officials who will be deployed from today and random tests will be conducted on passengers leaving the Western Province ahead of next week's Christmas holidays.
As a result, health officials will be deployed in Nittambuwa, along the Colombo - Kandy road, Salawa Kosgama, along the Avisawella - Colombo Road and Katunayake, along the Colombo - Chilaw Road. All other exit points of the Western province will also be manned by health and police officers, Silva said.
Authorities said this procedure will be in place until further notice, to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 into other provinces as the Western Province, especially Colombo continues to be the hot bed for the virus. (JAMILA HUSAIN)
