Ranjan remanded until April 20th

Former MP Ranjan Ramanayake, who was arrested by the Mirihana police for obstructing duties of Police officers at a road block in Mirihana yesterday, has been remanded until April 20 by the Nugegoda Magistrate Court.

Former Parliamentarian Ramanayake and another person have been arrested on charges of obstructing police duties.

According to the Police, the former MP, a resident of the Madiwala MPs residence complex, was visited by a person from Piliyandala who arrived in a cab with no valid curfew permit on Monday morning (April 13) When questioned by Police officers on duty at the complex, the visitor had reportedly made a phone call to former Minister Ramanayake.

Ramanayake who arrived at the entrance shortly afterwards had then threatened the police officers and attempted to take the visitor inside the premises. The Mirihana Police had in turn arrested the visitor on charges of violating curfew regulations and the Minister for obstruction of police duties.
