While claiming that no action had been taken on the complaint made to the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) against Batticaloa Campus Chairman M.A.L.M. Hisbullah, Parliamentarian Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera today urged the government to conduct an impartial investigation into the matter.
The prelate who visited the FCID and CID to ascertain the progress of the investigations into his complaint, told media that no action had been taken in regard to his complaint.
Ven. Rathana said Batticaloa Campus Pvt. Ltd. had received colossal amount of money from foreign sources and added that he had informed the Foreign Ministry in writing to look into the channel of funding to the Campus.
“We have not been updated with any information with regards to the source of funding as requested. The foreign minister should look into the matter and reveal the channel of funding to the Campus" he added.
The parliamentarian said he expected that the President would allow the complaint to be investigated without political intervention.
He said Mr. Hisbullah’s intention had been to make Sri Lanka a centre to promote Islamic extremism through the Batticaloa Campus.
“Mr. Hisbullah has obtained a state-owned land to provide free education by the name Heera Foundation, but later he had converted it into Batticaloa Campus Pvt. Ltd. where Shari'a law and Islamic extremism are taught. There has been an irregularity in the channel of funding as well,” he said. (Ajith Siriwardana)
