Former Minister Namal Rajapaksa today called on the government to release the CCTV footages and video clips circulated on social media and conduct an independent investigation into the Rambukkana incident.
He told Parliament that he regretted the unfortunate incident and that he did not approve of any form of attacks on the protestors.
"A reasonable investigation should be conducted into the incident," he said.
Namal said there were several video clips circulated in social media on the Rambukkana incident where a three-wheeler was set on fire, a group of people deflating tyres of a bowser and trying to set on fire to a petrol shed.
"There may be CCTV footges in the petrol station. Analyse all the video clips and CCTV footges regarding the incident and take a decision," he said.
He said he accepted that there was a problem in the country and said it was useless to politicize the issue and provoke the people.(Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
