Sixteen Kelaniya university undergraduates including a monk were taken into police custody in connection with the removal of newly installed CCTV cameras at the university premises, Police Spokesman Jaliya Senaratne said.
He said the monk and three students were arrested over the incident by the Kiribathgoda Police this afternoon while other 12 students later surrendered.
The police commenced investigations into the incident after a group of students of the university had damaged and removed the CCTV cameras which were installed by the university administration at the university premises recently.
It was reported that the CCTV system was installed owing to security concerns and also to monitor ragging incidents at the university.
The spokesman said the arrested would be produced in the Court.
