The Public Health Inspectors Union today urged the government to reveal the actual situation in terms of the possibility of commencing the rollout of the second dose of COVID19 vaccines.
PHI Union President Upul Rohana told the media that the government had not yet announced an official statement with regard to rollout of the second dose of Astrazeneca vaccines and this had raised serious concerns.
“The health authorities earlier announced that the rollout of the second dose would commence from April 12. However, they have now failed to make a clear-cut statement on it,” the PHI head pointed out.
“The international media have reported that there are some ambiguities in the Astrazeneca vaccine as well creating anxiety among those who have administered the first dose of the vaccine,” he said.
He added that there was no sufficient vaccines for the second dose to be given to all who were given the first dose. “The vaccination programme is currently at a problematic state,”
Therefore, he urged the Government to make an official statement on the current situation of the vaccination programme in order to clear the doubts. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
