Rs. 10 million contract killing averted

An individual suspected of preparing to destroy a woman on a contract of Rs. 10 million was taken into custody by the Organised Crime Investigation Unit of the CID during a raid in Habaraduwa area.

The suspect had in his possession a locally made shotgun with provision for T56 cartridges and six rounds of ammunition at the time of arrest.

Police said the inquiries revealed that the suspect had been ready with weapons and waiting for an opportunity to gun down the woman. The suspect G.W.A. Tyran Sandaruwan (26) was a resident of Meepe in Habaraduwa.

He was produced before Galle Addl. Magistrate Lakmini Vidanagamage and remanded till November 07.

A senior official of the Organised Crime Investigation Unit said they initiated further investigations of his involvement in contract killings and other crimes, if any.
