While expressing their views on removing ministers from their portfolios will not take Sri Lanka out of the present crisis, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB)  yesterday called  for an immediate election so that the country could come out of this crisis.

SJB MPs Mayantha Dissanayake and Harshana Rajakauna made this call while leading a protest opposite the Nelum Pokuna late last evening.

“The government should go for an election now and let the people of this country decide who should lead the country,” Mr. Dissanayake said.

“Sri Lanka has become worse than a third world nation. We have actually become a fourth world nation,” he added.

MP Rajakaruna said the entire cabinet should resign together with the President and allow someone who is capable of bailing the country out of fuel and power crisis.

“We, the SJB have the ability to get the country out of this crisis. Removing Ministers from the portfolios is not going to work,” he added.

Vice President of the Tharuna Samagi Jana Balaweguaya Rehan Jayawickrama said, Ministers Wimal Weerawansa and Udaya Gammanpila should have resigned from the cabinet portfolios without waiting till they were removed from the cabinet.

“The whole cabinet should resign and allow Parliament to elect a new government,” he said.

National Organizer of Samagi Tharuna Balawegaya Chamith Wijesundara called for the ending of fuel, gas and medicine queues that have become an eyesore today. (Yohan Perera and Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
