A sixty-eight-year-old person who was an observer representing the Samagi Jana Balawega (SJB) at the Sivali Central College polling centre, Ratnapura died of a sudden cardiac arrest, Ratnapura police said.
They said the deceased was identified as Y.A. Vanniarachchi, a resident of Rishi Sumanagama, Ratnapura New Town.
Police said that the incident took place around eight in the morning. The deceased had complained about a chest pain and had been immediately admitted to the Ratnapura General Hospital.
Hospital spokesperson said the person died on admission to hospital.
The Ratnapura District Returning Officer's office said that his illness did not interfere with the voting activities at the polling centre.
