During a meeting with the Ambassador of Myanmar, Malar Than Htaik at the Presidential Secretariat, he reiterated the government’s commitment to ongoing improvements in safety to protect the well-being of both international visitors and Sri Lankan citizens, the President's Media Division (PMD) said.
The President also briefed South African High Commissioner Sandile Edwin Schalk on Sri Lanka's current security situation while emphasizing the recent measures taken to enhance safety for both tourists and residents.
He assured that these efforts, in response to recent travel advisories, have led to strengthened security protocols across key tourist areas.
Meanwhile, the President has also had detailed discussion with the Myanmar Ambassador regarding the release of Sri Lankans forcibly held in Cyber Crime camps in Myanmar, where the President expressed hope for Myanmar’s assistance in this matter.
The South African High Commissioner reaffirmed South Africa’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Sri Lanka and expressed continued support for applying South Africa's peace and national reconciliation model in Sri Lanka.
The discussion also covered expanding international trade through the Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce and enhancing the travel and tourism sector to benefit both nations.
