Sri Lanka was vulnerable to a conflict in the Middle East and even running the risk of experiencing suicide attacks, Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa said yesterday.

Premadasa told a public gathering in Kaluaggala on Saturday that Sri Lanka’s vulnerability to a Middle Eastern Conflict was four fold.

“The USA could use Sri Lanka as a logistics hub as a result of the Acquisition and Cross Servicing Agreement (ACSA),” he said.

“Iran had already issued threats saying any location in the globe; where there is US presence will be attacked. Accordingly Sri Lanka might be a target if US troupes land here in Sri Lanka.

“There could be even suicide attacks in Sri Lanka if Iran chose such a tactic instead of directly attacking establishments where there is a US presence,” Premadasa said.(Yohan Perera)
