The measures taken by Sri Lankan authorities in the endeavor to contain the Covid-19 pandemic situation, remain at a higher level when compared to certain other countries, Chief Epidemiologist Dr Sudath Samaraweera said today.
Addressing the media, he said decisions made by the Government in respect of containing the virus and providing relief to people, were significant.
“The authorities have taken measures like allowing people to subject themselves for PCR tests for free, providing accommodation for Covid-19 patients for free at hospitals, taking prompt measures to lockdown high-risk areas and granting relief packages to affected people especially people living in lockdown areas,” he said.
Dr Samaraweera said with the maximum utilization of limited resources, the Government is tackling the situation quite well.
“The government’s intervention in certain countries is very limited when it comes to taking effective measures to contain the spread of the virus and providing relevant facilities to affected community,”
However, Sri Lanka authorities take the lead to make sure that the country is safe from the Covid-19,” he added. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
