SL netball team to depart for Netball World Cup after Botswana training

The Sri Lanka national netball team will depart for Cape Town, South Africa, Tuesday for the 2023 Netball World Cup after an International training session in Botswana.

The Sri Lanka team was victorious in all four practice matches in Botswana, making it a successful training programme ahead of the World Cup, said Sri Lanka National Netball Coach Tilaka Jinadasa.

Sri Lanka beat the Botswana National Team 70-51, the Police Team 70-36, and the BDF-Cats Team 55-53.

Sri Lanka have been drawn in Group C in the preliminary round of the World Cup, where they will play Jamaica on July 28, followed by South Africa on July 29, and Wales on July 30.

Gayanjali Amarawansa is the Sri Lanka team captain at the Netball World Cup, while Dulangi Wannithilake is vice captain.

Sri Lanka are in the Netball World Cup 2023 as Asian champions in the 16-team competition.

Sri Lanka were ranked 15th at the 2019 Netball World Cup in Liverpool. (Susil Premalal)
