Sri Lanka has witnessed the first-ever death of a pregnant woman today from the COVID-19 virus, the Public Health Inspectors' Union said.
Public Health Inspectors' Union Secretary Mahesh Balasuriya speaking to the Daily Mirror said the woman, who was three months pregnant and expecting her first child, died while being transferred to Ragama Hospital from Minuwangoda.
The victim was a 45-years-old resident of Narangoda Paluwa (West) in Ragama. Her remains were cremated this evening.
The victim was admitted to the Minuwangoda Hospital following a PCR test after she was suffering from a severe cough. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
